About

Shane Ryan

Shane hails from Port Macquarie, NSW. A graduate from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Financial Administration (Accounting) degree, he has gained comprehensive experience and has been admitted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. After graduating Shane joined ‘Big 4’ accounting firm KPMG in 1995 as an Accountant with their Private Business Services division focusing on Taxation, Accounting and Audit for mid-sized enterprises and high net worth individuals.

In 1999 Shane headed overseas to the UK where he contracted financial services to multi-national conglomerates including the famous Walt Disney Company and Gillette before returning to Australia to broaden his professional experience across stock broking and financial planning. In 2003 Shane joined a Sydney based ASX200 company ($1.2bn turnover) as a member of the Corporate Business Development team where his role included development and implementation of corporate strategy alongside negotiating and transacting mergers & acquisitions.

Shane’s next move would be Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to a Melbourne based division of the same company ($450m turnover) where he was responsible for the Finance, Administration and group IT functions including the management of 40+ staff. With his commercial experience expanding he customised a number of procedures including the introduction of an Activity Based Costing system.

2007 brought with it another career highlight, with Shane taking on the role of CFO with a Private Equity investee company that imports, manufactures and markets sporting goods. With sport being one of Shane’s passions a ‘hands-on’ approach was inevitable as he introduced initiatives to improve working capital, managed foreign currency hedging transactions, set the company strategic planning framework and reviewed the company’s supply chain (including freight, warehouse and commercial lease arrangements). This appointment allowed Shane to gain a firm understanding of the Private Equity Market.

Eventually the call of home proved too much and Shane moved his young family back to Port Macquarie to take up the position of CFO at the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. Here he managed Council’s financial operations (including the Council’s $55m investment portfolio), was responsible for Risk Management and Insurance and provided advice on project, operational, legal & property issues. Shane led an initiative to significantly reduce Council’s operating costs and was a member of Council’s Asset Management Planning steering group, responsible for implementing asset management structures across Council’s $1.1bn asset base. Invaluably, Shane’s time at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council allowed him to round out his industry experience gaining firsthand knowledge of local government processes, structures and industry practices.

Shane’s inner entrepreneur finally won out when he re-established himself in public practice, founding Ryan Financial Corporation in 2010 and bringing with it a unique approach to the traditional accounting industry role. Shane’s interests outside of business include enjoying good food & wine with friends, the great outdoors and a love of all things sport.

Ruby LOANE

Client Services Manager Ruby really is the heartbeat of the business, she’s the Go-To-Girl for all of our client’s multitudinal service needs. Professional yet friendly, Ruby keeps the business on track whilst the Accountants do their thing. Ruby jumped right into her career straight out of school (or to be accurate whilst still at school, obtaining her Certificate III in Business Administration as a School-based Trainee in Year 12). A shift to the city had her working at large Accounting firm BDO as an Administration Assistant (in the Private Clients division, supporting a Partner, 2 Senior Managers and a team of 8 Accountants). After moving back to Port Macquarie Ruby quickly rose through the ranks taking over as Office Manager in a Practice of 6 accountants. Impressively, she was 22 at the time. Our clients just love having Ruby to keep them organized (and we are blessed to have her keeping us on track too). Outside of work Ruby enjoys cooking & entertaining for friends and family with her fiancé Andrew all whilst gradually renovating their first home. When she’s not spending time with loved ones, Ruby can be found curled up on the couch with a good book & a nice glass of red.

MelISSA RODGERS

With an Accounting career spanning over a decade, Chartered Accountant Mel provides a wealth of technical skills and experience to the firm’s clients. When it comes to use of technology to enable a great lifestyle, Mel really practices what she preaches. She has spent the last couple of years travelling the length and breadth of the country in a van with her young family. Whilst a little envious, we love following Mel’s ‘socials’ and seeing what stunning location she sets up her office (camp!) next. With the exception of the odd Telstra blackspot, this hasn’t stopped her from expertly providing the full range of Accounting and Taxation services to the clients of the firm.
